Europa League final, Manchester United vs Villarreal Score: Villarreal beat Man United 11-10 on penalties
Villarreal stunned Manchester United after a marathon penalty shoot-out, with goalkeeper David de Gea missing the last spot-kick, in the Europa League final to lift their first ever major trophy in Gdansk. It finished 1-1 after 120 minutes as Gerard Moreno put the unfancied Spaniards ahead in the 29th minute, before Edinson Cavani levelled early in the second half. But Villarreal won a remarkable shoot-out 11-10.

Who else but Moreno as the veteran striker put Villarreal in front, his 30th goal of the season. It all started with Cavani giving away a free-kick, 40 yards out from the United goal. Parejo delivered a perfect ball over the defence line, and Moreno got away from Lindelof to shoot the ball past de Gea.
