Bhowmick to lead Prayag United SC in upcoming season

KOLKATA: Mid-fielder Lalkamal Bhowmick will lead a 35-member Prayag United SC squad in the upcoming football season.
Prayag United, known as Chirag United SC till last season, retained its core players including Bhowmick, who was their best player last season, picking up seven man-of-the-match awards.
Brazilian forward Joshimar Da Silva, mercurial midfielder Denson Devadas, promising youngster Shankar Oraon and experienced goalkeeper Abhijit Mondal are among those who were retained in the squad.
The club also roped in Ghanaian Yusif Yakubu, Kiwi Kayne Vincent and Mohun Bagan's Jayanta Sen for the upcoming season.
"Our first target is to top our group that will enable us qualify for the semifinal of the Federation Cup," team coach Sanjay Sen said.
The outfit is clubbed with Chirag Kerala, Sporting Club de Goa and Air India in group D in the final phase of the Federation Cup which kicks off simultaneously in Kolkata and Pune from September 17.
Sen further said that the team were in doldrums after their last season's sponsors walked away.
"We had a tough two-three months, unsure of the future of the team. We are really thankful to our new sponsors."
A win over Mohun Bagan in the first-leg of I-League drew many's attention on the club in the last season and were in course for a top five finish.
But Prayag had 14 draws to their credit, which meant they slipped to eighth on the table.
