KOLKATA: Mohammedan Sporting Club registered a convincing and comfortable 4-1 over George Telegraph in their Calcutta Football League Premier Division A match at the Barasat Stadium on Wednesday. This was Mohammedan Sporting Club’s third win in the campaign as they moved up to nine points from four matches. George Telegraph stayed on just one point.
Manvir Singh hit a brace while Atinder Mani and Parminder Singh scored one goal each for the winners. On the other hand, it was Rajib Shaw who pulled a goal back for George Telegraph.
Manvir Singh opened the scoring in the 10th minute of the encounter before he doubled the lead with his second goal of the match in the 31st minute. Mohammedan Sporting Club went into the break with a two-goal lead and that became 3-0 soon after the change of the ends when Atinder Mani found the back of the net four minutes into the second session.
Rajib Shaw then got a consolation goal for George Telegraph in the 84th minute but Parminder Singh struck in the third minute of the added-on time to make it 4-1.
Mohammedan Sporting Club’s next match will be against Aryan Club on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Mohun Bagan, who are on nine points from three matches, will play their fourth match of the local league against Bhawanipore Club on Thursday. The Federation Cup champions’ new foreign signing Haroon Amiri is expected to be in the match-day squad on Thursday. The green and maroons, on Wednesday, announced the signing of their third foreigner: Daniel Bidemi of Nigeria. Bidemi is expected to arrive in Kolkata on Thursday.
