KOLKATA: A galaxy of former India players namely Mehtab Hossain, Rahim Nabi, Sangram Mukherjee, Denson Devdas, Sasti Dule, Dipankar Roy, Ashim Biswas and Subhash Chakraborty took part in the Ballygunge Government High School Alumni Association (BGHSAA) organised Debojyoti Sinha Roy Sports Carnival. The ex-students of the school lost 0-4 with Rahim Nabi, Ashim Biswas (2) and Mehtab Hossain scoring. Renowned referees Chittodas Majumdar and Hiren Das officiated the match.
Santanu Guha, Nabin Mondal, Souvik Biswas and Rajarshi Bhattacharya put up a good show for BGHSAA.
In another keenly-contested friendly match, the ex-students of Jadavpur University defeated the hosts 3-2. At one point, the hosts were leading 2-0, but goals from Siddharth Sarbadhikari, Diptesh Pakrashi and Tuhin Mondal sealed the match for the visitors. Nabin Mondal and Sudip Bose were the scorers for BGHSAA.
However, the (BGHSAA) got the better of ex-students of Jadavpur University in a cricket match dedicated to late RN Mukherjee. Batting first the ex-students of BGHS posted a target of 112 for the JU Alumni in 10 overs. The stars with the bat for BGHSAA were Koustav Chakraborty and Judhajit Mukherjee. For JU, Diptesh Pakrashi, Indranil Mukherjee and Mustafa shone with the ball.
In response JU could manage only 98 in their allotted overs, handing over a 14 run win to the hosts with Koustav, Mriganka Boral and Avisek Ghosh bowling tight spells. Indranil Mukherjee was the top scorer for JU.
The school’s reunion also featured a discussion on the FIFA World Cup with journalists from leading media houses of Kolkata taking part in it along with former footballer Alvito D’Cunha.
