Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds on new F1 regulations: “Important for us that we don't become two versions of the same thing”
Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds has once again spoken about the new Formula One regulations, which have led to comparisons between F1 cars and Formula E due to the introduction of hybrid powertrains. Dodds said that F1 teams and engineers have been looking at Formula E for ideas, something he believes has worked in favour of the electric racing series. However, he added that F1 does not need to fail with the new concept for Formula E to emerge as a success in electric racing.
Dodds had earlier invited F1 champion Max Verstappen to try their new GEN4 car at a time and track of his choice. He extended the invitation after the Red Bull driver famously called the new F1 cars “Formula E on steroids”.
Jeff Dodds was recently present at the maiden Madrid E-Prix. He gave Jaguar TCS Racing drivers Antonio Felix da Costa (winner) and Mitch Evans (runner-up) a shoutout for dominating the podium at Circuito del Jarama. He wrote in an Instagram post: “The inaugural 2026 CUPRA Raval Madrid E-Prix was one for the history books! From the electric energy at Circuito de Madrid Jarama to a tactical masterclass by winner Antonio Felix da Costa and Jaguar TCS Racing, the race proved why Formula E is motorsport’s most exciting frontier.”
“Special thanks to our race title partner CUPRA for their support and to HM King Felipe VI for joining us. As we hit the mid-season mark and welcome Opel for next year, the momentum is unstoppable. Next stop: Berlin double-header (2–3 May)!” he added.
There has been a month-long break between the Madrid E-Prix and the upcoming Berlin double-header, which is scheduled from 1-3 May.

Jeff Dodds says F1 need not fail to make Formula E look successful
Jeff Dodds was speaking on the Business of Sport podcast when he touched upon the topic of the new F1 regulations. He said, "There's a lot I look at in Formula 1. I think they do it magnificently. On the other hand, some of the things they're doing more recently, I suspect they're looking over the fence and thinking, what are we doing well? It's really, really important for us that we don't just become two versions of the same thing. We are in competition in some respects, but I don't need them to fail for us to be successful."Dodds had earlier invited F1 champion Max Verstappen to try their new GEN4 car at a time and track of his choice. He extended the invitation after the Red Bull driver famously called the new F1 cars “Formula E on steroids”.
