“I drove a great car in worst place possible”: Dan Ticktum reviews 1975 Valiant Super Bee as he battles Mexico City traffic

Ahead of this season’s Mexico City E-Prix, Dan Ticktum was nervous and sweating as he drove through Mexico City in an orange 1975 Valiant Super Bee and shared a hilarious review of the car. The model is found mostly in Mexico, but it turned out to be quite a stressful experience for the Cupra Kiro driver, who tried his hand at the vintage machine while battling Mexico City traffic. He shared a video of his unique drive on YouTube to keep his fans entertained and share his review.

Dan Ticktum also shared the video on Instagram with the caption, “If you’re bored on this rather mundane Sunday afternoon, please consider watching this YouTube video.”

Ticktum described the Super Bee as a “baby muscle car,” but after getting behind the wheel, he appeared frustrated by its lack of speed and gear issues. He also found it extremely loud, although he admitted he was prepared for the noise. He struggled with visibility, saying he couldn’t see much in the rearview mirror, and described the brakes as “spongy.” At the same time, he acknowledged how good modern cars have become by comparison.


He joked that the title of the video should be, “I drove a great car in the worst place possible.”

Ticktum also found it difficult to drive the car amid Mexico City traffic. “Hell, this thing is ridiculous. I mean, it’s not the most relaxing place to drive a car like this, right in the middle of Mexico City, which is known for not having the best driving standards in the world. The steering backfires and makes all the right noises,” he said while clearly under stress. Despite the chaos, he ultimately called the car a gem for the overall experience.

Fans reacted positively to the video in the comments. One wrote, “You’d do alright as a Top Gear presenter.” Another said, “Love this series idea. Felt the stress through the screen ‘no, no, no, ehh no.’” One more commented, “If you can’t find it, grind it.” Another added, “Amazing review, Dan. Hope next time you can actually go full throttle with whatever car they lend you and not be stuck in hellish traffic.”

Ticktum will now return to the track for the Miami Grand Prix, which is scheduled for January 31.
