Pit Boost approved for maiden Madrid E-Prix; Joel Eriksson says race “would have been quite short otherwise”
There are going to be quite a few firsts at the next Round 6 race in Madrid. This is the maiden Madrid E-Prix after the venue made a new addition to the Formula E calendar. Now it has been revealed that it will also be the first single-header Formula E race to have Pit Boost in place. The race is scheduled on March 21 and will have the Formula E drivers compete at the Circuito Permanente del Jarama for the first time.
Drivers will now have access to Pit Boost along with one six-minute Attack Mode, which is enough to work as an additional race strategy and change the outcome of the race. Pit Boost delivers 1.5MWh of energy across almost 400 battery top-ups.
As per the new development, the race will now have 23 laps instead of just 21. Reacting to the same, Envision's Joel Eriksson told RacingNews365, “I think it's good to have a Pit Boost race in Madrid, because I think it would have been quite a short race otherwise. So yeah, I think it's just positive, both for the drivers to make it a bit longer and also to make it a bit more difficult for the teams and the drivers, making it more of a strategy race. And then obviously, for everyone who's coming out there and watching the race, and also from home on TV, it's just better instead of having a half-hour race.”

But Madrid will be a solo race that will have Pit Boost in action.Drivers will now have access to Pit Boost along with one six-minute Attack Mode, which is enough to work as an additional race strategy and change the outcome of the race.
