Starring Brad Pitt and Damson Idris as F1 drivers, the Joseph Kosinski film was one of the most successful movies of 2025 and grossed more than double its budget of around $300 million. Fans and cast members alike have been elated by the movie’s Oscar nods.

F1 has been nominated in four categories at the Oscars: Best Picture, Visual Effects, Film Editing, and Sound. Stephen Mirrione earned a nomination in the Best Film Editing category. Ryan Tudhope, Keith Dawson, Nicolas Chevallier, and Robert Harrington were nominated for Visual Effects, while Al Nelson, Gwendolyn Yates Whittle, Gary A. Rizzo, Juan Peralta, and Gareth John received nominations in the Best Sound category.Fans of the movie were thrilled when Apple shared the news on Instagram. The caption on Apple TV’s official page read: “Congratulations to the entire #F1TheMovie team on their Oscar nominations.”
Reacting to the post, F1 lead Damson Idris quoted one of his lines from the film in the comments: “It was always my team.” Soon after, fans began flooding Instagram with congratulatory messages. One fan wrote, “Congratulations to producer Lewis Hamilton.” Another said, “Regardless of the outcome, being nominated is an incredible achievement. Really well done.” One more added, “Sonny Hayes world domination, I hear?” Another fan commented, “I’m pretty positive they can win Best Sound.

Who does the F1 movie compete with at the Oscars?

F1’s Best Picture nomination places the film alongside competitors such as Bugonia, Frankenstein, Hamnet, Marty Supreme, One Battle After Another, The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value, Sinners, and Train Dreams.The movie was shot on real tracks at real Grands Prix, including the British Grand Prix in 2023. In the Visual Effects category, it will compete with films such as Avatar: Fire and Ash and Jurassic World Rebirth.Besides Brad Pitt and Damson Idris, F1 also stars Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, and Javier Bardem. Lewis Hamilton worked closely with the filmmakers to ensure the movie delivered an authentic experience. It earned around $631 million at the box office.
