Odia singer Abhijit Majumdar passes away: Cause of death, tributes, funeral, and other details

Popular Odia singer and music composer Abhijit Majumdar passed away today, on January 25, 2026. His demise has left everyone from the music industry in shock and mourning. He was admitted to the AIIMS Bhubaneshwar for treatment in September 2025. While everyone is grieving the demise of the renowned musician, here is everything you need to know about the cause of his death.As per the reports, Abhijit Majumdar was battling several severe health issues. PTI quoted the hospital bulletin stating, "The Odia singer suffered a cardiac arrest this morning at 7.43 am, and CPR was started as per ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) protocol. However, despite all the resuscitation efforts, he was clinically declared dead at 9.02 am."After his treatment in the ICU, he was moved back to the medicine ward on November 10 for care. As per the AIIMS statement, the singer had developed a new onset of fever (infection) on January 23, and it was handled as per the SOPs. However, the musician didn't respond to the treatment and developed refractory septic shock.According to the reports, the Odia singer is survived by his wife, Ranjita Majumdar, and their son. The late soul was active on social media before he was admitted to the hospital for treatment. His feed is full of glimpses of travel moments and work life. On Instagram, he has over 59.8k followers.Former Odisha CM and the current Leader of Opposition took to his X account and wrote, "I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of renowned music director and lyricist Abhijit Majumdar. His contributions to the Odia music world will always remain memorable. In this hour of grief, I extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved family members, along with prayers for the eternal peace of the departed soul." Current Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi wrote, "I am deeply saddened to learn about the demise of renowned vocalist and music director Abhijit Majumdar. His demise is an irreparable loss to our music, cinema, and culture. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and pray to Lord Jagannath for the peace of the departed soul." Meanwhile, according to Majumdar's family, the mortal remains of the singer-composer will be taken to his home in Cuttack, where the last rites will be performed.
