The sun has risen with much more warmth for George Russell this year, as the Mercedes driver went on to win the first race of the 2026 F1 season in Australia. This comes just months after the delay in Russell’s contract renewal at Mercedes kept speculators busy. It was finalised only by the end of October, and Russell confirmed he got more than he had hoped for earlier. Looking at his victory in Melbourne, one can expect a rise in the Briton’s status and fortunes this year. Here is what he earned in 2025 and how his net worth could see a steep rise by the end of this year.

How a 2026 F1 title could impact George Russell’s 2026 net worth

George Russell’s victory from pole at the Australian Grand Prix is no matter of luck but a hint of what lies ahead this season. The Mercedes engine has been the talk of the town, and both Russell and his team-mate Kimi Antonelli’s podium finish in Melbourne confirm the team is ready to lay its claim for the World Championship this year.As per Forbes, George Russell earned $26 million in salary, including bonuses, at Mercedes last year. A latest HITC report has ranked his estimated net worth this year in the range of $20-40 million.
Last year, his pay cheque was almost one third of that of Max Verstappen, who is currently not happy with how the F1 cars are performing on track.
The Red Bull driver has openly slammed the new regulations after finishing sixth at the Australian Grand Prix. In that case, if Russell actually manages to win the Formula 1 World Championship this year, one can hardly doubt his wealth increasing manyfold.

George Russell’s new Mercedes deal is far better than what he was getting before

George Russell had already hinted at this when signing a one-plus-one contract with Mercedes in October last year. It reportedly comes with a clause stating that if he meets a certain target and performs well this year, his seat will be confirmed at Mercedes for 2027 as well, even if Max Verstappen were to take a seat beside him.
In an interview with The Telegraph, Russell revealed, "It is something I haven't actually said publicly, but the deal is, if I'm performing in 2026, we have a specific clause that if I reach [a target], we will automatically renew for 2027. So my seat for 2027 is in my hands. I'm not being strung along here. We're not going to be in the same position as we were six months ago. If I perform and I don't want to go into details, but if I perform, then 100 per cent I'll be staying."He also revealed that he got a better deal after the delay than he would have received earlier. "I actually wanted to sign the deal back in October 2024, but the deal I got today is substantially better than what I would have got had I signed it then. So yeah, sometimes I think you just have to trust in your ability, and I feel I'm only getting stronger," he said. When George Russell wasn’t racing last season, he spent time on his luxury yacht with girlfriend Carmen Montero Mundt by his side.
