The world of Formula 1 is filled with speculations about the future of Max Verstappen after it was reported that Aston Martin is preparing an unprecedented £1 billion offer. The Daily Mail reports the offer comes not only with a fat contract but also a shareholding deal, making Verstappen one of the best-paid sportsmen in the world.

Aston Martin has made a concerted effort to attract the best personnel over the last few years, and the jewel in their crown has been recruiting Adrian Newey. With the added stimulus of a recently improved Silverstone HQ and an impending deal for a Honda engine from 2026, Aston Martin is set on challenging at the front of the grid.

Doubts over Aston Martin’s £1bn offer

Even as Verstappen insisted that Red Bull Racing is his "family," he has expressed a desire to drive the fastest car on the grid. With Lewis Hamilton's planned move to Ferrari, Mercedes too has been reported to be linked with Verstappen, creating further speculation about his future.

Even though the exorbitant sums were reported, Marko has questioned the validity of Martin's bid. “I doubt whether it is really that high, especially given Aston Martin’s current share price,” he said. “It is said to have been a high offer. But we don’t know whether the offer really existed.”

Max Verstappen's monetary upgrade

Verstappen currently makes a base pay of $70 million (£55.5 million) with Red Bull Racing, plus $6 million (£4.7 million) in endorsements, for his 2024 salary of $76 million (£60.3 million). With Martin's reported offer becoming a real possibility, his wage would go through the roof, placing him in the ranks of the globe's highest-paid athletes.
