Teenage Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli praises Lewis Hamilton as a 'great person' ahead of Australian Grand Prix

While Formula 1 in 2025 has already kicked off the new season down in Australia, Mercedes' freshest rookie, Kimi Antonelli, gave praise to his new teammate of legendary status and seven-time F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton, now driving for Ferrari. The teenager, 18, thanked Hamilton for the positive words and career advice he offered him, regarding him as “a great person” who is always very generous towards him.

Learning from a champion

Antonelli has progressed through the ranks of the Mercedes junior team and has been able to witness Hamilton's commitment and skills firsthand. Now taking a seat once occupied by the British icon, Antonelli is still grateful for the counsel he has received.

“Lewis has always been nice to me and also gives me some advice,” Antonelli said at Thursday's press conference. “I am really grateful for that because it shows that he's not only a great driver but also a great person.”

Now donning Ferrari red for the first time on a Grand Prix weekend, Hamilton couldn’t hide his admiration for Antonelli’s journey. Smiling as he listened to the young driver’s words, Hamilton reflected on how special the moment was for him as well.

“The first reason I was smiling was just looking at this youngster here,” Hamilton said, pointing to Antonelli. "He is doing so well. He has conducted himself so we".
