championship from Monday.

Currently ranked 14th in the world, Shubam will compete in B category. The boy, who hails from

Israna village

in Haryana’s Panipat district has won more than 100 tournaments in his fledgling career, is here after winning a tournament in Scotland last week.

The five-day event will be held in three categories: A Category (between age group of 16-18), B category (age group of 13-16) and C category (between age group of 13-16) and is being organised by the Indian Golf Union. The defending champion in B-category feeder Binoy Alex is a local boy.

The top juniors who are expected to compete are: Kartik Sharma, Raghav Chugh, Harshjeet Sethie, Manav Bais, Aadil Bedi, Karan Pratap Singh, Saurav Rathi, Pratyush Sharma, Saarthak Chhibber, Kshitij Naveed Kaul.

Sabu Thomas, administrative chief of CIAL Golf Club, told TOI that they have prepared the fairways and greens on time despite the rainy season. “The four-year-old course is an all weather course and rain water drains immediately and the players can resume the game. The large water bodies on the mammoth course would be a real test for these young upcoming golfers,” he added.

Monday will be practice round, cut will be applied after second day and final two days will bring new champions.
