Ivan Toney made headlines after Al-Ahli’s dramatic 1-0 win over Damac in the Saudi Pro League. The 29-year-old striker was involved in a late confrontation with Damac defender Jamal Harkass. Tempers flared in stoppage time after Damac saw a dramatic equaliser ruled out by VAR. As emotions ran high, Harkass appeared to make repeated kissing gestures toward Toney during a heated exchange on the pitch.

Toney responded in his own way. The former Brentford forward laughed in his opponent’s face and continued celebrating after the disallowed goal. Later, he took to social media and posted a cheeky comment about the incident. His side’s victory pushed Al-Ahli one point clear at the top of the table, ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr, while Damac remained stuck in the relegation zone.

The flashpoint came in the 94th minute when Damac believed they had equalised through former Reading and Cardiff striker Yakou Meite. However, after a lengthy VAR check, the goal was ruled out. Ivan Toney celebrated passionately in front of Jamal Harkass, which sparked the unusual reaction from the defender. The Moroccan defender leaned forward several times, appearing to attempt to kiss Toney during the exchange.

Unbothered, Toney kept smiling and celebrating. After the final whistle confirmed a 1-0 win for Al-Ahli, he shared a clip of the moment online. Alongside a vomiting emoji, he wrote: “I’ve never smelt a breath so bad.”

The game had already been full of drama. Damac thought they had taken an early lead, only for VAR to cancel that goal as well. Toney himself had a goal ruled out for offside after neatly lobbing goalkeeper Kewin.

The breakthrough came in the 37th minute. Former AC Milan and Barcelona midfielder Franck Kessie scored from close range following a set piece. That goal proved decisive as Al-Ahli held firm during a tense finish.

The victory lifted Al-Ahli above Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr in the standings. Damac, meanwhile, remain deep in trouble with just 15 points from 23 matches. Toney has enjoyed a superb season, scoring 23 goals in 22 league appearances and adding five assists. He has formed a strong attacking partnership with Riyad Mahrez and Edouard Mendy.

Al-Ahli will next return to action on the field on Thursday when they travel to face Al-Riyadh.
