Anthony Joshua posts painful rib treatment photos months after tragic Nigeria crash, summer comeback now uncertain
Anthony Joshua is still fighting, but this time, it is not inside the boxing ring. Anthony Joshua has shared fresh pictures of his rib treatment as he continues recovery months after a tragic car crash in Nigeria. The former two-time heavyweight champion, 36, posted images on Snapchat showing intense therapy work on his ribs. The crash happened on December 29 in Nigeria, just ten days after he knocked out Jake Paul in Miami. While Joshua survived, the accident took the lives of two of his close friends, his childhood friend and personal trainer Kevin “Latz” Ayodele, and his long time therapist Sina Ghami.
Since that day, Joshua has stayed focused on healing. He captioned one of his posts: “Rehabilitation protocol. When you go through certain things, you realise that you are stronger than you think you are.” The images showed deep muscle work on his ribs as part of his physical therapy. The crash forced him to pause his boxing plans. He had been expected to return to the ring in March. Now, his comeback depends fully on his health.
Promoter Eddie Hearn spoke to Boxing Scene in February about Joshua’s condition and possible return. He said, “Originally, the plan with AJ was for him to fight in March and then fight Tyson Fury in August. That’s not happening.”
Hearn added, “He’s not fighting Tyson Fury next. He’s going to come back I believe late summer, but physically he’s not yet in a position to return to camp.”
He continued, “I’m planning, but he’s just resting and preparing. So for me I’m looking at options to get him back in the ring in July time.” And finally, Hearn explained, “But we’ll only know if that’s a real possibility when he returns to camp, which will hopefully be in the next couple of weeks or a month.”
For now, Joshua’s focus remains on recovery. His team wants him fully fit before any fight is confirmed. A summer return looks possible, but only if his body responds well to treatment. Anthony Joshua has faced tough opponents before. This recovery may be one of his biggest battles yet.

Anthony Joshua has been working quietly behind the scenes to rebuild his strength. After the crash, he flew back to the UK to attend the funerals of Kevin “Latz” Ayodele and Sina Ghami. Both men had been important parts of his life for years. Before the accident, Joshua had just stopped Jake Paul in six rounds. There was early talk of a huge fight later this year. But those plans changed overnight.Promoter Eddie Hearn spoke to Boxing Scene in February about Joshua’s condition and possible return.
