For Aryna Sabalenka, the win ended years of frustration at one of tennis’ biggest tournaments outside the Grand Slams. Often called the “fifth major,” Indian Wells had been a difficult stop for her in the past despite her consistent success on the tour. This time, she made sure the ending was different. The title also added another big milestone to her career. It became Sabalenka’s 10th WTA 1000 title, reinforcing her position as one of the most dominant players in women’s tennis today. But once the trophy ceremony was over, the mood quickly shifted from intense competition to celebration.
Speaking to reporters afterward, Sabalenka joked about how she planned to enjoy the moment now that the pressure of the final was gone. “Well, I guess a couple espresso martinis, probably, and Five Guys to go,” the tennis star said in her post-match press conference, adding, “Basically, that’s why I’m never in good shape, because it’s Five Guys and espresso martinis in celebration (laughing). Yeah, I guess that’s it. Maybe a couple drinks just to cheer ourselves."
On court, Sabalenka also made sure to acknowledge her rival after the match. "I want to congratulate Elena. I know we'll face each other many more times," Sabalenka said on court after lifting the trophy.
The win continues a strong season for the 27-year-old. Earlier this year, she reached the Australian Open final and has remained one of the most consistent players on the tour. Off the court, Sabalenka is also known for her humor. She often shares lighthearted moments in interviews. Earlier this season, she even joked that the sparkle from her engagement ring might distract her opponents during matches.
