Canelo Álvarez, the Mexican boxing star, left his training camp last month to see the birth of his daughter, Eva Victoria Álvarez, before returning to prepare for his huge fight with Terence Crawford. The baby was born on August 8, 2025, in Mexico, just weeks before Canelo’s title defence. The fight will take place on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, where Canelo will defend his undisputed super-middleweight titles. He admitted it was “incredibly hard” to leave his newborn and partner, but he says the moment gave him new strength as he heads into the biggest fight of his career.
Canelo Álvarez says family is his motivation ahead of Terence Crawford fight
Canelo Álvarez told Daily Mail Sport that he briefly stepped away from training camp to be with his wife Fernanda Gómez and their newborn daughter Eva Victoria. The 34-year-old said,
“I left training to be at the birth of my daughter. I received my daughter and everything was amazing. It was so beautiful. But then I had to go back to my training camp. It was incredibly hard to be away from them.”Canelo Álvarez has four other children and often speaks about how much his family drives him in boxing. He said this sacrifice gave him more energy, adding,
“I do everything for them. I will win this fight for them.”The Las Vegas bout against Terence Crawford is one of the biggest boxing events of the year. Canelo Álvarez has fought for nearly 20 years at the top level, winning titles in four weight classes and headlining shows from Madison Square Garden in New York to the bright lights of Las Vegas. Still, he says nothing motivates him more than his family at home.
Canelo Álvarez balances family life with boxing spotlight
Canelo Álvarez admitted that while he enjoys fame, sometimes he dreams of living a simple life away from cameras. He said, “Sometimes I do. Life would be a lot easier. But I appreciate everybody who recognises my accomplishments. When I started boxing, I wanted this, and I can’t go back now.”

He is considered one of the best fighters of this era and has unified titles across several divisions.
The stage is set for a true pound-for-pound battle, but for Canelo Álvarez, the fight is about more than belts or money. His eyes, he says, are fixed on the people waiting for him at home.
