After winning the 2026 Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award, Carlos Alcaraz spoke openly about his personal life. He said staying at home with his father, Carlos Alcaraz Gonzalez, and his mother, Virginia Garfia Escandon, keeps him calm and real.

He said, “Every time I go back home, it’s almost like I forget that I’m a tennis player. With my friends and my family, I’m still living in the same house as always, it’s like it takes me back to my roots, and I feel like the same ‘Carlitos’ I was when I was a little kid.”

That simple routine seems to help him deal with pressure. Even after a huge 2025 season, where he finished as World No. 1 and won the French Open and US Open, he has chosen not to change his lifestyle.

However, things are not as smooth on the tennis side right now. Alcaraz picked up a right wrist injury during the Barcelona Open. This came just days after he lost a tough final to Jannik Sinner at the Monte Carlo Masters. He still played his first match in Barcelona and beat Otto Virtanen, but the injury forced him to pull out before facing Tomas Machac.

Because of this, he also missed the Madrid Open. That raised doubts about whether he will be ready for the French Open. Alcaraz has now responded to those concerns and made it clear that everything depends on upcoming medical tests.

He said, “We’ll see. The next (medical) test will be crucial. We’ve been trying to do everything we can do to make sure that this test goes well. I’m trying to be very patient. But we are good, we are just waiting a little bit. We have a few tests in the next few days and then we will see how the injury is, and what the next steps will be.”

For now, the situation is still unclear. He had planned to play the full clay season, including Rome, before the French Open. But his return will depend on how his wrist responds in the coming days.
