Conor McGregor drops four-word praise for Jake Paul’s grit after brutal Anthony Joshua knockout loss

Jake Paul may have lost in brutal fashion against Anthony Joshua, but his courage has earned respect. The YouTuber-turned-boxer faced the former two-time heavyweight world champion last Friday at the Kaseya Center in Miami. Many expected a quick finish. Instead, Paul lasted longer than predicted and showed resilience before being stopped in the sixth round.

The fight came at a heavy cost. Paul suffered a fractured jaw and later underwent surgery. Despite the loss and injury, the performance sparked discussion across combat sports. Even Conor McGregor, who has long been involved in a public rivalry with the Paul brothers, set aside past tensions to acknowledge Paul’s effort after the fight.

Conor McGregor reacts as Jake Paul shares surgery update and future boxing plans

After surgery, Jake Paul shared an update with fans on Instagram. He posted photos from his recovery and explained the extent of his injuries. Paul wrote,

“Surgery went well, thanks for all the love and support. Two titanium plates on each side. Some teeth removed. Have to have only liquids for seven days.”

The post caught the attention of Conor McGregor. Despite years of verbal sparring between McGregor and the Paul brothers, the former UFC champion showed respect. Reacting to Paul’s update, McGregor commented, “Fair play! Well done.”

The response surprised many fans. Earlier in 2024, McGregor had been linked with a possible boxing fight against Jake’s older brother, Logan Paul. That bout never materialised, but the rivalry has remained a talking point in combat sports.

Inside the ring, Paul started the fight with a smart strategy. Anthony Joshua struggled to land clean punches at first. However, the physical demands soon caught up with Paul.

By the fifth round, Paul began to slow down. He was forced into more exchanges with the bigger and stronger Joshua. In the sixth round, Paul suffered multiple knockdowns. Moments later, Joshua cornered him and landed a crushing right hand. The referee stepped in to end the fight.

Now in recovery, Paul is already looking ahead. In another Instagram post, he teased his return to the ring and asked his fans to suggest his next opponent.

Paul is currently ranked No.15 by the WBA at cruiserweight. That ranking makes him eligible to challenge champion Gilberto Ramirez. Despite the loss, Paul’s boxing journey appears far from over.
