The UFC president recently spoke to Rolling Stone and made one thing very clear when he said, “Legacy does not mean anything to me.” Instead of looking back at what he has already built, White appears focused only on making the UFC bigger.

The attention around White increased again after details about the upcoming Freedom 250 event came out. According to Rolling Stone, Trump personally asked why heavyweight star Derrick Lewis was not on the White House fight card. White quickly moved to make it happen. That moment showed just how closely connected the UFC boss has become with some of the biggest political names in the country. At the same time, White also revealed that Russian president Vladimir Putin reportedly stopped one fighter from appearing at the event, showing how global politics are now crossing paths with MMA.

During the interview with Rolling Stone, Dana White looked back at the early days of the UFC and explained how difficult it was to make the sport accepted in America. He said the company once spent $10 million just to get television exposure through “The Ultimate Fighter” on Spike TV in 2005.

White explained how the UFC slowly kept growing with every media deal. First came a $35 million agreement, then a $100 million deal with Fox, followed by a $3 billion partnership with ESPN. In 2025, the company signed another massive deal reportedly worth $7.7 billion with Paramount Skydance Corp., according to Rolling Stone.

The 56-year-old also shared why mixed martial arts grabbed his attention more than boxing. White said many MMA fighters came from difficult backgrounds and carried unique stories that connected with fans. After attending early UFC events with Lorenzo and Frank Fertitta, he believed the sport could become huge if it was promoted correctly.

Even now, White does not sound interested in slowing down. He told Rolling Stone that he always believed he would be the person to take the UFC worldwide. The promotion now hosts events across several countries, including Azerbaijan later this year.

For White, success is not about protecting a legacy or looking back proudly at old achievements. His focus remains on growth, bigger events, and finding the next major step for the UFC brand.
