To this day, Ma still has never asked me for a dime,” Colorado HC Deion Sanders said on X. “Her purpose was to make certain I had what I needed, & she placed me in situations that afforded us opportunities we never would have had. Thank you, Ma, for making life happen for me & for being you. #Son.”

Connie Knight raised Sanders largely on her own after separating from his father. At the time, Sanders was just two years old. Despite the challenges, she focused on giving her son a stable future.

She worked demanding jobs to keep their household running. Those years left a deep impression on Sanders as he grew older. They became a driving force behind his determination.

One memory he often recalls is seeing his mother scrub hospital floors. Watching her work so hard pushed him to chase success with greater intensity. He promised himself she would never have to struggle like that again.

“My mama never cared about a Louis (Vuitton) or Gucci or Fendi or any of that,” Sanders said. “She never asked me for any of that bull junk. I gave her several diamond rings, and I don’t even know if I think she wears them.” Her priorities always remained simple and focused on family.

Even after Sanders built a successful career, his mother remained humble. For years, she had not fully seen the scale of what he achieved. That changed during a memorable drive around his property.

Sanders once took her on a tour of the land he owns. As they kept driving, the moment turned into a surprising realization. The reaction from his mother made the day unforgettable.

“We went on a ride around the property, and my MAMA @mommaconnie21 cussed as we kept going & going! Lolololol. She then stated, ‘You own all this?’ I responded, ‘WE OWN ALL THIS!!’ ‘God is GOOD,’” Sanders said.
