Joe Rogan has recently opened up on why Islam Makhachev is a bigger threat than Khabib Nurmagomedov. While both fighters come from the same Dagestani background and share elite grappling skills, Rogan believes their fighting styles are not the same. According to him, Makhachev brings more weapons into the cage, especially when the fight stays on the feet.Rogan’s comments have sparked fresh discussion among MMA fans. Many already rate Nurmagomedov as one of the greatest fighters in UFC history. However, Rogan feels that Makhachev has added new layers to that dominant Dagestani style. With recent events in the lightweight and welterweight divisions, Makhachev’s name is now being spoken of as one of the most complete fighters in the sport today.

Speaking on The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan explained that Khabib Nurmagomedov’s greatness came from pressure, control, and relentless wrestling. He said Nurmagomedov is clearly among the best fighters ever and deserves full respect. However, Rogan pointed out that Islam Makhachev stands apart because of his striking ability. He explained that while Nurmagomedov was solid on the feet, he never needed flashy knockouts.
In contrast, Makhachev has shown he can finish elite opponents with strikes, including his head-kick knockout of Alexander Volkanovski, which Rogan said was not something seen in Nurmagomedov’s game.Rogan went on to describe Makhachev as operating at a higher level overall. He said Makhachev can finish fights in every possible way. According to Rogan, Makhachev can knock opponents out while standing, finish them on the ground, submit them, or dominate them with takedowns. He also highlighted that Makhachev is physically large for the lightweight division, making him even more dangerous at 155 pounds.Away from Rogan’s analysis, Makhachev has also responded calmly to recent comments from Ilia Topuria. Topuria has continued to take verbal shots at Makhachev and Nurmagomedov despite competing in a different division. Makhachev said he senses some resentment coming from Topuria. He suggested that the tension could be settled either before a fight or inside the cage in the future. For now, he believes Topuria is dealing with his own issues and frustrations.Makhachev recently proved his dominance again by winning the welterweight title with a strong victory over Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 322. Topuria, meanwhile, is taking time away from the sport after winning the lightweight belt with a knockout of Charles Oliveira at UFC 317.Also Read: Khabib Nurmagomedov takes sly dig at Andrew Tate and Jake Paul, likes a post mocking their “alpha male personality” after recent losses
