TikTok influencer Gabbie Gonzalez is now facing serious criminal charges after prosecutors accused her of being part of an alleged murder-for-hire plot involving her former partner, singer Jack Avery. The case became even more shocking after court documents revealed that an MMA fighter was also pulled into the situation years before the arrests happened. According to documents obtained by TMZ, prosecutors claim Gabbie Gonzalez, along with her friend Kai Cordrey, first tried to get former MMA fighter and boxing trainer Dustin Barca involved in March 2021. Authorities say the two women allegedly wanted Dustin Barca to scare or pressure Jack Avery into leaving Kauai. TMZ reported that Dustin Barca never became involved in anything illegal and has not been charged in the case.
The situation later grew much bigger. Prosecutors allege Gabbie Gonzalez, her father Francisco Gonzalez, and Kai Cordrey then searched for a hit man on the dark web. Court records also state that an undercover investigator later spoke with Kai Cordrey about the alleged plan during a phone call in 2021. TMZ was the first outlet to report details from the criminal complaint.
Jack Avery custody fight and Gabbie Gonzalez court restrictions
The legal case took another major turn this week when Gabbie Gonzalez appeared before a Los Angeles County judge. Prosecutors officially charged her with three criminal counts tied to the alleged conspiracy. During the hearing, the judge reportedly set her bail at $2 million.
TMZ reported that Gabbie Gonzalez appeared in court wearing a blue hoodie while members of her family watched from inside the courtroom. The judge also scheduled an arraignment hearing for Thursday.
At the center of the case is a custody battle involving the former couple’s seven-year-old daughter, Lavender. Prosecutors claim the alleged plot happened while Gabbie Gonzalez and Jack Avery were going through an intense fight over custody arrangements.
After the arrests, Jack Avery quickly went to court asking for extra protection. According to TMZ, he requested a temporary restraining order against Gabbie Gonzalez and also asked for sole legal and physical custody of their daughter. He further requested that she should not receive visitation rights while the criminal proceedings continue.
The judge approved the temporary restraining order. As part of that order, Gabbie Gonzalez is not allowed to contact Jack Avery or go within 100 yards of him or their daughter.
TMZ also reported that Gabbie Gonzalez was arrested last week in Humboldt County, California, while boarding a flight. Authorities later transferred her to Los Angeles County. Meanwhile, Francisco Gonzalez was arrested separately in Florida in connection with the same investigation. Dustin Barca has not been accused of wrongdoing, and no charges have been filed against him.
