Jorge Masvidal said he wanted to confront Dillon Danis at UFC 322, held on November 9, 2024, at Madison Square Garden in New York, but he never got the chance. Masvidal said Team Khabib Nurmagomedov reached Danis before he did, and the fight that broke out in the seating area happened only minutes before he arrived there.
Masvidal shared this story on his Death Row MMA podcast this week. He said Dillon Danis had been sending him strong messages during fight week, and he expected a face-to-face moment inside the arena. But when he walked out of the VIP area and toward the floor, he learned the situation had already turned violent.

Jorge Masvidal said he was walking toward his seat when he ran into Magomed Zaynukov, a member of Khabib Nurmagomedov’s group.
This happened inside Madison Square Garden moments before the main card began on November 9.
Masvidal said police officers were standing around Zaynukov, and he noticed the man’s hands were bloody. Masvidal asked, “What happened, brother?” but Zaynukov told him, “All good, bro. Little problem. I took care of it.”
Masvidal said that was when he understood he had missed what happened with Dillon Danis. He told listeners, “They stole it from me. I was going to handle it myself.”
He added that the messages Danis sent earlier in the week made him feel the confrontation was certain as soon as they were in the same place.
UFC staff stopped Jorge Masvidal before he reached the lower section, and he later learned that security had already dragged Dillon Danis out of Madison Square Garden. Danis was removed after punches were thrown near the fighters’ seating area.
Later in the week, Javier Mendez, who has coached Khabib Nurmagomedov for many years, explained what led to the fight. Mendez spoke to Submission Radio and said Dillon Danis was sitting near the Dagestani team inside the fighters’ section.

Mendez said the images were seen as disrespectful and hurtful.
He said, “What do you expect when you do that? You sit with the same people you are insulting. You push them, and things happen.” Security moved in moments later and took Dillon Danis out of the arena.
