Matt Weston’s fiancee’s reaction turns emotional as Team GB star races through Olympic pressure

Matt Weston gave Team GB a moment to remember at the 2026 Winter Olympics when he won gold in the men’s skeleton in Cortina. New footage showed his fiancée Alex Howard-Jones, along with his parents Tom and Alison, watching trackside as Weston completed his medal-winning runs. The race itself showed how strong Weston has been this season. He led from the opening run and kept improving, recording times of 56.21 and 55.88 on day one, then extending his lead with a 55.63 run before sealing gold.

Those final runs confirmed him as Britain’s first medal winner of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Games and the first British man to win Olympic skeleton gold.

Trackside, his family lived every moment differently. His father Tom cheered throughout the race, while Alex Howard-Jones looked tense as Weston sped down the ice.

The mood changed instantly once victory was confirmed. Alex hugged Weston’s mother Alison as the crowd celebrated.



Speaking after the win, Alex said, “It feels amazing to be honest. I told you that he’d get a gold and he did. We couldn’t be prouder.” The couple are set to marry in July and share a ten-year-old cocker spaniel named Logan.

His father also praised him, saying, “He’s definitely that good. I knew he’d be very close, at least second. Absolutely proud of him.”

The win was even sweeter after earlier controversy around British helmets being ruled illegal, forcing Weston and teammate Marcus Wyatt to return to their old equipment.

It made no difference to the result, Weston stayed focused and finished on top, turning a tense family watch into a night of celebration for Team GB.
