The MMA legend Ronda Rousey is finally set to make her long-awaited return to combat sports this Saturday in a blockbuster fight against Gina Carano. The highly anticipated bout will headline the first-ever live MMA event streamed on Netflix. Fans have waited years to see the two pioneers of women’s MMA face each other after talks of a fight first surfaced more than a decade ago.

Rousey has not competed in MMA since her devastating loss to Amanda Nunes in 2016. Before that, she also suffered a famous knockout defeat against Holly Holm at UFC 193 in 2015. Since stepping away from MMA, Rousey built a successful WWE career, became a Hall of Famer, married fellow fighter Travis Browne, and started a family. Meanwhile, Carano moved into Hollywood after leaving the sport in 2009.

The upcoming fight will take place at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles on May 16. The arena can hold around 18,500 fans and is expected to be packed for the historic event. The main card is scheduled to begin at 2 a.m. BST and 9 p.m. ET, while the main event ring walks are expected around 4 a.m. BST and 11 p.m. ET. The event is backed by Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) which is co-owned by YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul.

Notably, Netflix will broadcast the entire event worldwide as a part of its standard subscription package. Fans will not need to pay extra pay-per-view fees to watch the event live. Premium subscribers will also have access to Ultra HD streaming and multi-device viewing options.

Gina Carano was once considered the face of women’s MMA during her time in EliteXC and Strikeforce. Known for her aggressive fighting style and strong judo background, she helped bring attention to women’s combat sports before Rousey became a global star. After leaving MMA, Carano focused on acting. She featured in films like Haywire and Fast & Furious 6.

For Ronda Rousey, this fight marks an important comeback moment. Fans remember her dominant run during her UFC title stint. She became one of the biggest stars in MMA history. However, her sudden back-to-back knockout defeats changed her career path.
