Rory McIlroy and Erica Stoll give fans unexpected relationship glimpse during glamorous White House night together

Rory McIlroy and Erica Stoll quietly stole attention at last month’s White House State Dinner after a rare photo of the couple surfaced online. The picture showed Rory McIlroy and Erica Stoll smiling together inside the White House Entrance Hall during the glamorous event hosted by US President Donald Trump in honor of King Charles and Queen Camilla. The couple, who have mostly stayed away from public attention in recent months, looked relaxed and happy while posing together among several high-profile guests.

The event took place on April 28, shortly after Rory McIlroy won his second straight Masters title at Augusta National. The Northern Irish golfer had already been making headlines for his strong form on the course, but this time fans got a rare look at his personal life away from golf. Their appearance also came less than a year after the couple went through a difficult phase in their marriage before reconciling in June 2024.

The photo was shared by Dublin-based stylist Ingrid Hoey on Instagram. In the image, Erica Stoll wore an elegant black embroidered gown designed by Elie Saab, paired with black opera gloves, Christian Louboutin heels, and a Bottega Veneta clutch. Rory McIlroy wore a Ralph Lauren tuxedo while holding a glass of champagne during the evening gathering.

Even though the dinner celebrated King Charles and Queen Camilla, Rory McIlroy still became one of the biggest talking points of the night. During his speech, President Donald Trump suddenly stopped to praise the golfer’s recent Masters win.

“The entire world has been uplifted by this distinct and special character we share. This unstoppable daring. This unconquerable courage. It really is unconquerable… speaking of that, where’s Rory McIlroy?” Trump said during the event.

“Stand up, Rory. That was unconquerable courage. That was very good, Rory,” he continued while talking about McIlroy’s Masters victory.

Trump then added, “I don’t know if that helps them talk about how wonderful the speech is but I had to interrupt my speech because I watched that man win a tournament that was tough. That was a tough one. Congratulations. Very proud of you.”

Rory McIlroy recently defeated World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler by one shot to secure another Masters title. The win further strengthened his place among golf’s biggest stars. Trump had also congratulated McIlroy earlier on Truth Social, where he praised the golfer for performing under “intense pressure.”

The White House event also featured several famous names, including Jeff Bezos, Lauren Sanchez, Sam Altman, Ivanka Trump, Jared Kushner, and members of the US Supreme Court. Still, the rare photo of Rory McIlroy and Erica Stoll became one of the most talked-about moments from the evening because the couple has largely stayed private since getting back together last year.

In May 2024, Rory McIlroy had filed for divorce from Erica Stoll. However, the filings were later withdrawn. At that time, McIlroy said, “We have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning.”
