Should Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi play together? It would be ‘weird’, says CR7’s ex teammate

Cristiano Ronaldo’s stint at Al-Nassr has been the point of many debates. His journey with the team has indeed been lacklustre, at least compared to his standards. But amid a chaotic professional phase, will Ronaldo unite with fellow GOAT Lionel Messi? Reports suggest that industry elements are planning to orchestrate this union, but Cristiano Ronaldo's one-time Manchester United team-mate Giuseppe Rossi has something interesting to say about this.

Ronaldo’s time at Al-Nassr has been marked by a lack of trophies. Moreover, he was striking too! Ronaldo recently went on strike, as he was frustrated at how transfer funds are distributed in the Middle East. Although he ended his strike after a resolution was reached.

Shortly after this, he was left tending to an ill-timed hamstring injury, which has only fueled rumours about his future following the 2026 World Cup. His contract runs until 2027, and potential release clauses have led fans to speculate whether Ronaldo might return to Europe or MLS. A few weeks ago, multiple reports emerged which claimed that David Beckham is looking to unite Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi at Inter Miami in a historic summer transfer.



However, fans are not too thrilled with the dream team speculation. Giuseppe Rossi, who once played alongside CR7 at Manchester United, opened up in a recent interview that watching Messi and Ronaldo play together would be weird.

“I don't want to see it. I don't want to see Messi and Ronaldo together. That would be kind of weird. Just keep them separate. If Ronaldo wants to play in the US, you put him on - what's another team in Florida? Orlando. So at least they could have a good rivalry there.”

Rossi has also suggested that a landing spot in Los Angeles will suit Ronaldo “better” than Miami. Although it’s not clear why he suggested something this specific and if Georgina’s modelling career has something to do with this.

“Ronaldo, he kind of defies science, right? But I'm sure that there will be a time where he's going to hang them up and it's going to be one of the greatest careers that anybody has ever had. So I feel like let's continue to enjoy the likes of him and the likes of Messi that are playing at an older age and still at a good level. Because you never know when the last game will be,” added Rossi.
