The long-awaited fight between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua has taken another unexpected turn, and this time it has nothing to do with boxing. Reports suggest the mega fight could face problems after singer Dua Lipa turned down an offer to perform at Wembley Stadium. The idea was reportedly linked to plans around the event, which has already been years in the making.

Right now, the fight is still expected to happen, but this situation has raised fresh questions. The two fighters had finally agreed to face each other after a long back and forth over the years. Now, with new details coming out about conditions around the event, fans are once again left wondering if everything will go as planned.

As the story picked up attention, Anthony Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn quickly addressed the situation. He made it clear that neither Joshua nor Fury had asked for any such condition. Speaking this week, he said, “That’s not a request from either fighter or me. [Turki] he is saying that if Netflix want to do the show it’s got to be in London and Dua Lipa’s got to perform. That’s over to Turki Alalshikh.”

It is still not fully clear how serious that condition was, or if it was said in a light way. But the report has still created doubt around the fight, especially given the history between Fury and Joshua.

This is not the first time their fight has faced issues. Back in 2021, their planned bout collapsed after Deontay Wilder secured a trilogy fight with Fury through a legal ruling. Then again in 2023, talks restarted after Fury publicly called out Joshua, but both sides could not agree on the final terms.

Things seemed different this time. After Fury’s recent win over Arslanbek Makhmudov, he openly called out Joshua in front of the crowd. He said, “I want to give you the fight you’ve all been waiting for. I want you, AJ, Anthony Joshua. Let’s give the fight fans what they want, the Battle of Britain. I want to fight you next, do you accept my challenge?”

Joshua responded in a calm way, saying, “I’ve sat at this table many times. I’m not here to chase clout. Contracts will be sent over and I’ll more than likely be in the ring with him next.”

Before that, Joshua is set to face Kristian Prenga on July 25 in a warm up fight. It will be an important moment for him, especially after a difficult period in his personal life. Last year, he was involved in a serious car accident in Nigeria that led to the loss of two close friends. He survived with minor injuries and has since returned to training.

For now, the Fury vs Joshua fight is still on track, but once again, small details could decide whether it finally happens.
