What happened to Caitlin Clark on a big night for Indiana Fever? Her honest postgame comments raised concern
The concern around Clark came during a week when she was already making headlines. Recent attention had focused on a tense moment involving Fever head coach Stephanie White during a heavy loss to the Portland Fire. With questions surrounding the team after that defeat, many people were watching closely to see how Indiana would respond. By the end of the night, Clark and the Fever had provided an answer on the court.
Caitlin Clark pushes through illness as Indiana Fever bounce back after difficult week
Despite feeling unwell, Clark played more than 30 minutes and delivered another strong all-around performance. She finished as Indiana’s leading scorer while also contributing eight assists and seven rebounds.
The illness appeared to affect her during the game, particularly around halftime. However, she returned for the second half and continued to play at a high level as the Fever pulled away for the win.
She admitted that she had been sick throughout the evening. “I haven’t puked that much in a really long time.” Even after dealing with those issues, Clark said she actually felt better later in the game.
“But then I felt fine.” She continued: “I felt light. So, I was running around feeling good in the second half, but [I] feel OK.”
The performance was an important response for both Clark and the Fever. Just days earlier, Indiana suffered a disappointing 110-84 loss to Portland. During that game, Clark drew attention after making gestures toward head coach Stephanie White while sitting on the bench.
The incident sparked conversation among fans and media members, but Indiana appeared focused on moving forward before facing Atlanta. Fever teammate Sophie Cunningham recently spoke about a team meeting that took place following the loss.
“It was a really good meeting, and so hopefully we try to turn the page and everyone is kinda on the same page now.” She also expressed confidence that fans would notice a different energy from the group. “And hopefully Thursday you guys will notice that.”
Based on Indiana’s performance against Atlanta, the message may have worked. The Fever looked more connected on the court, while Clark showed determination by continuing to compete despite feeling ill. Although her health briefly worried fans, she was able to finish the game and help Indiana secure an important win.
