What happened to Jay Silva? Cause of death explored following former UFC fighter’s death at 45
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of FAME fighter Jay Silva,” the promotion said in its statement. “Through his performances, Jay brought a great smile, positive energy, and the professionalism of a true athlete. He will forever remain a part of our federation’s history.” Silva was known for competing in UFC, Bellator, and several other fight promotions during his long career in combat sports.
Jay Silva’s MMA journey included UFC fights, Bellator appearances and training with Freddie Roach
Jay Silva’s path into mixed martial arts started in an unusual way. In 2007, he was working as a nightclub bouncer in New York when he met UFC star Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. That meeting changed his life. Jackson encouraged Silva to move to California and begin serious MMA training.
Silva later said he became interested in fighting after watching the first season of The Ultimate Fighter. “I realised I could do that if I wanted to,” he once explained.
As his career moved forward, Silva fought several known names in MMA. He faced Hector Lombard in Bellator and also earned the nickname “Da Spyder Killer” after beating Kendall Grove in 2012 at Superior Cage Combat.
Back in 2009, Silva shared how he hoped fans would remember him after retirement. “I want to be remembered as the greatest fighter the world has ever seen. I want people to remember me as a beast,” he said.
