“Great guy, you know, and he’s the guy that, when healthy, takes the ball. It’s sad that he went down the way he went down (last year), but it means a lot to the guys in the locker room. So, yeah, again, this is a guy that takes the baseball, gives you multiple innings, gives you high leverage innings. It doesn’t matter. He’s a gamer.”

According to Jon Heyman's report via the New York Post, Drew Smith is expected to sign a $1 Million deal with an option for $2 Million for 2026. In July last year, Smith underwent a Tommy John surgery, which led to speculations of his career ending with the Mets. On Wednesday, Smith interacted with the media and spoke about his future with the Mets.

“I’ve been with the Mets for a long time and I love this organization, they’ve done a lot for me. Obviously, going into free agency, it’s a tough time for this to happen. It’s never a good time for it to happen, but this really stings," Smith said.

Drew Smith was drafted into the league during the 2015 MLB Draft in the third round by the Detroit Lions. In his rookie year, he signed a contract of $575,800 and was later traded to the Tampa Bay Rays in April 2017. Less than 6 months later, the Rays traded Smith to the New York Mets in July 2017, and the pitcher remained with them ever since.
