The Los Angeles Dodgers fans have been waiting for Shohei Ohtani to make his most anticipated pitching comeback in the 2025 MLB season. However, while Ohtani has significantly recovered from his Tommy John surgery, he recently revealed feeling "some discomfort" in his left shoulder, which was injured in 2023.

Shohei Ohtani shared health update during bullpen session

On Wednesday, Shohei Ohtani was spotted at Los Angeles Dodgers official bullpen sessions. During an interaction with the media, he shared his health status while heading into the Spring Training. "Just a limited range of motion. I've gone through it with the elbow before, and with the shoulder, it's a little bit more complicated. I do believe that's the part that I have to be patient."

"I do feel like there’s some discomfort that I still have to overcome. It’s not really debilitating ... but there’s a limited range of motion. I’ve gone through it with the elbow before, but with the shoulder, it’s a little more complicated. But I do feel confident that I’ll be able to make it when our season opens," Ohtani added.

In September 2023, Shohei Ohtani underwent Tommy John surgery, which took a good long time for recovery. This led to Ohtani missing out on the entire 2024 season as a pitcher but ended up impressing the fans as a hitter. Moving forward in the interview, Ohtani talked about being open to "get a break" if the Dodgers decide to do so.

“I want to let the team dictate that. I do want to play as much as possible, but if the team feels like I should get a break, I’ll follow that," Ohtani said.

According to Dave Roberts, the Dodgers manager, Shohei Ohtani won't be pitching in the Spring Training. Apart from that, Ohtani won't be undergoing any minor league rehab stints. If anything, Roberts explained how there would be a significant decrease in Ohtani's workload, which would give him enough time to get comfortable with his position.
