“That is just not accurate”: Scott Boras sends clear message on Tarik Skubal as Los Angeles Dodgers rumors heat up

The future of Tarik Skubal is already a big talking point, even though the season is still going on. The Detroit Tigers ace is in his contract year, which means he can test free agency after this season. Because of that, many fans believe big-market teams like the Los Angeles Dodgers or New York clubs could try to sign him. But his agent, Scott Boras, says that thinking is too simple.

Speaking to the New York Post’s Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman on February 27 during “The Show,” Boras pushed back on the idea that Skubal’s future is limited to Los Angeles or New York. “Limiting it to New York teams or LA teams, I think, is something that is just not accurate because, obviously, this is a talent-driven business,” Boras said. He made it clear that top pitchers attract interest from many places, not just the biggest cities.

Scott Boras explained why a No. 1 starter like Tarik Skubal is valuable to any team that wants to win a championship. “This is something that brings you world championships, having No. 1 starters,” he said. He pointed to Gerrit Cole as an example. “We learned from Gerrit Cole what that meant to the Yankees, what allowed them to compete annually for a World Series,” Boras added. In simple words, elite pitching changes everything for a contender.

Because of that, Boras believes several teams will look into signing Skubal if he becomes available. “I think that teams are very aware of this, and I fully would imagine that it’s good business to go out and try to get someone that you can’t get,” he said. He also noted that chances to sign a pitcher of this level do not come often.

Still, any move may have to wait. MLB insider Tom Verducci recently told Dodgers Nation on February 14 that he does not expect Detroit to trade Skubal during the season. “I never really bought into [the Tigers trading Skubal this offseason] possibility, only because of how much he means to Detroit,” Verducci said.

He also questioned whether the Tigers would let him walk easily. “If he does, it’s going to be a number beyond anywhere the Tigers have gone, even with Miguel Cabrera,” Verducci explained. He believes Detroit can compete in the American League and may stay in the playoff race, which would make a midseason trade unlikely.

For now, the focus remains on the field. But once the offseason begins, Tarik Skubal’s name will likely be one of the biggest stories in baseball.
