The police officials in Costa Rica have now released former New York Yankees’ player Brett Gardner’s 14-year-old son, Miller Gardner’s body, to the family, a few days after he died.

Brett Gardner’s family remains heartbroken due to Miller’s sudden death

As per The New York Post, Costa Rican Judicial Investigations confirmed that they have released Miller Gardner’s body to his family on March 26. Miller had suddenly passed away while the family was on vacation at the Arenas Del Mar Beachfront and Rainforest Resort. It was suspected that Miller fell ill and died. The exact cause of death is not yet known. As per laws, a body cannot be released from the morgue unless a family member or a legal representative submits a formal request.

Brett Gardner, the MLB legend and his wife, Jessica had shared a statement regarding Miller’s sudden death on X. The statement said:
"With heavy hearts, we are saddened to announce the passing of our youngest son, Miller. He was 14 years old and left us far too soon after falling ill along with several other family members while on vacation.”
The statement further read:
"We have so many questions and so few answers at this point, but we do know that he passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of Friday, March 21st, Miller was a beloved son and brother and we cannot yet comprehend our life without his infectious smile," Brett and Jessica wrote. "He loved football, baseball, golf, hunting, fishing, his family and his friends. He lived life to the fullest every single day."

Costa Rican police await Miller Gardner’s exact cause of death

As per police authorities, all the samples have been sent to histology, toxicology and neuropathology labs for testing and further investigation. Police authorities say they expect the results in two to three months. The case is still being handled as a death under investigation.
As per AOL, police authorities suspect that Miller’s preliminary cause of death was ruled as asphyxia, before the investigators later clarified that his airway had not been obstructed. Authorities say, it is also possible that Miller died following a bout of food poisoning.
