Clarke Schmidt hinted that the Yankees might have been on the lookout to find Gerrit Cole's replacement. The team might not face any major impact from Cole's departure, but according to Schmidt, there's a good chance that he might be picked up as a staff. Talking about the same, Schmidt said:
“There’s no way to sugar coat it -- he’s a top of the league guy and has been an ace in this league for a long, long time. He’ll be missed if it’s something longer-term. Regardless, I think we’ve got to pick him up as a staff."

"I know we did a pretty good job of that in the first half last year when he was gone, and I think we’re very well capable of doing that again," Schmidt further added.

On Saturday, Gerrit Cole came clean about his injury status and revealed his "hopes for the best" and said:

"I'm hoping for the best. In the game there was a lot of good stuff happening the other day, but as I got home I just continued to get more and more sore. Something wasn't right."

Gerrit Cole said that he plans on getting the MRI done to get the real-time idea of his injury. Yankees manager Brian Cashman later revealed that the team has already "prepared for the worst" if the possibility of Cole missing out the season arises.

As the regular season nears, do you think Gerrit Cole will be able to overcome his injury and get back to the Yankees lineup? With Cole's absence, there's definitely going to be an impact on the team's chances of winning the World Series. What do you think?
