Carl Froch rules out Conor Benn’s rematch with Ryan Garcia, says the Zuffa Boxing new hiring will be “outclassed”

Carl Froch believes a future fight between Conor Benn and Ryan Garcia would be very one-sided. The former world champion watched Garcia dominate Mario Barrios in Las Vegas and said the American looked far ahead of Benn’s current level. Garcia dropped Barrios in just 30 seconds and then controlled the full twelve rounds to win the WBC welterweight world title. Benn, who is ranked No.1 contender for that belt, was ringside for the bout.

The potential fight now looks uncertain after Benn left long-time promoter Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing. The British boxer has signed a lucrative deal with Dana White’s Zuffa Boxing. The decision shocked the boxing world and upset Hearn, who supported Benn through his doping case in 2022.

Carl Froch questions Conor Benn’s readiness but calls the split “just business”

Carl Froch said he simply does not see Conor Benn competing with Ryan Garcia at elite level. He explained that, in his opinion, Benn has not yet beaten top opponents to prove he belongs in a world-title fight of that size. Speaking to The Sun, Froch noted that Garcia would outbox him easily and move around him throughout the contest. He added that Benn sometimes dislikes hearing this criticism, but the results on his record still leave doubts about his readiness.

He pointed out that Benn’s biggest name opponent was Chris Eubank Jr. Froch argued that Eubank was no longer at his peak and had already taken heavy defeats in recent years. Because of that, Froch believes Benn has not yet done enough to justify fighting a newly crowned champion like Garcia.

Benn has also not competed at welterweight for nearly four years. His recent fights were at middleweight against Eubank. He lost the first fight in April but clearly won the November rematch. Before that, his career stalled when he tested positive for clomiphene in 2022. Benn denied wrongdoing and fought the charges with Hearn’s backing. Eventually the case was dropped and his suspension lifted.

After returning, Benn reportedly earned close to $20 million from the two Eubank bouts. Soon after, he agreed to a one-fight deal worth more than $10 million with Zuffa Boxing. Hearn felt hurt by the decision and insiders described it as a major betrayal, especially because communication was handled through lawyers rather than directly.

Despite this, Froch defended Benn’s choice. He said boxing careers can end suddenly through injury and fighters must secure the biggest paydays while they can.
