BHUBANESWAR: Asian Games champion and Asian record holder Tajinderpal Singh Toor went past the 20m mark for the first time this season as he won the gold in men's shot put at the Federation Senior National Athletics Championship here on Tuesday.

Toor, who fouled four of his six attempts, had a best of 20.38m after he opened with a heave of 20.14m. "It has been a tough period for me. I was facing several problems including a few personal ones. So I'm satisfied with this performance today. I need to get better to improve on this," Toor said.

Madhya Pradesh's Samardeep Singh Gill finished a distant second at 18.93m followed by Aryan Tyagi of Uttar Pradesh who had a best of 18.07m.

In men's long jump, national record holder Jeswin Aldrin failed to cross the 8m mark but his 7.99m bagged him the gold by quite a distance. The Tamil Nadu athlete began with a leap of 7.93m but failed to improve on till the last jump which turned out to be his best. Karnataka's Arya S (7.83m) and Kerala's Muhammed Anees Yahiya (7.81m) came second and third respectively.
