Desinghu Desinghu creates national record in 100m freestyle

Dhinidhi Desinghu, a 13-year-old from Karnataka, broke Maana Patel's 2014 100m freestyle record in 57.67 seconds at the 39th Sub-junior and 49th Junior National Aquatic Championships 2023.

NEW DELHI: Dhinidhi Desinghu of Karnataka set a national record in the 100m freestyle for Group II girls on Thursday at the 39th Sub-junior and 49th Junior National Aquatic Championships 2023.
The 13-year-old, who trains at Dolphin Aquatics with coach Madhu Kumar BM, recorded 57.67 seconds to break Maana Patel's 2014 record of 59.12 seconds.
Desinghu's powerful strokes put her over 10m clear of Karnataka's Sri Charani Tumu (1:02.55s).

Her national record was only a fraction of a second slower than the best Indian time of 57.3s, which bears Kenisha Gupta's name.
In another race, Karnataka's Ishaan Mehra timed 1:00.64s to break the national record in the 100m freestyle for Group II boys.
He broke Suhas Pretham's 2022 mark of 1:01.29 seconds. Vedanta Madhir, also from Karnataka, finished second. He won the silver medal with a time of 1:01.98 seconds.
Assam's Jananjoy Jyoti Hazarika won gold in the 50m butterfly. He appeared at ease as he raced ahead of Maharashtra's Salil Prashant Bhagwat to win first in 25.12 seconds, while Bhagwat clocked 25.94 seconds.
