WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he was "working hard" to get the

Olympics

to return to

Los Angeles

, even as the American media suggested the sprawling American city was most likely to host the games.

Trump asked his followers on Twitter to "stay tuned" to the social media account for updates on the decision of the International Olympic Committee.

Los Angeles has already hosted the Summer Olympics twice in 1932 and 1984.

According to The New York Times, the Olympic Committee is expected to solidify an unusual plan to award the 2024 and 2028 Summer Olympics to either Paris or Los Angeles through voting later today. Normally the IPC awards the games to one city at a time.

"Paris is favoured to hold the Games in 2024, the centenary of the last time it hosted the Olympics, while Los Angeles is expected to hold the Summer Games for a third time in 2028. Voting by delegates of the

IOC

will take place on September 13 in Lima, Peru," the daily said.

Paris and Los Angeles both have presented their bid for the 2024 Summer Olympics at the Lausanne yesterday.

French President Emmanuel presented the bid for Paris, while Los Angeles Mayor

Eric Garcetti

made the presentation on behalf of the city.

"The Olympics is one of the few things that unites us in the

United States

right now," the mayor said.

"The White House has been wonderful and supportive and has issued letters saying not only with athletes and the delegations get in for the Olympics, but also the test events leading up to the Olympics," Garcetti said.
