In a battle of fluctuating fortunes, Betala kept his nerves in check and capitalised on the chances that came his way to win 56-21 34-59 22-45 45-31 55-49. It was the second title triumph for Betala in the meet after securing the sub-junior snooker title a couple of days ago.

In the final, it was a black-ball game in the fifth frame which sealed the fate of the title clash. Gupta was unlucky to miss an easy pot and Betala seized the opportunity to emerge a deserved champion.

The tournament was played in the memory of late cueist Amit Sharma, who had died after succumbing to Covid-19 in May this year, informed Ravi Tandon, secretary, Delhi Billiards and Snooker Association (DBSA). A former billiards champion, Sharma was the vice-president of the DBSA.

Earlier, Betala, a student of the Rukmani Devi Public School had won the Delhi State sub-junior title after defeating

Rehan Mishra

in straight frames in the summit clash. The 18-year-old Betala emerged victorious 63-39 47-27. On account of their final dash, both Betala and Mishra will represent Delhi in sub-junior snooker Nationals in Bhopal later this year.

“Betala is a promising player and a medal hope for 2030 Doha Asian Games in which Cue Sports has been included. If given proper coaching as desired by Manmeet Singh Bhatia, Delhi Coach, he will soon bring medal glory to the nation in senior events as well,” stated Tandon, who wants him to be trained in England like Pankaj Advani and Aditya Mehta.
