During the game between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Los Angeles Lakers, Wolves shooting guard Anthony Edwards acquired two technical fouls. He was already in his 14th foul before the game, and then with his 16th, he was automatically suspended from a game. His ejection from the LAL-MIN game also didn't go over too well with him, and then he had to sit out the game against Utah Jazz - which has turned out to be quite costly, for him as well as the team.
Anthony Edwards lost a lot of money for missing the game against the Utah Jazz
Collecting 16 technical fouls this season, the Minnesota Timberwolves shooting guard has earned himself a one-game suspension from the NBA. And missing the game against the Utah Jazz means
Anthony Edwards did not get paid for it either. According to reports, the suspension cost him $242,393. On top of that, his team will receive a tax variance credit of $121,196 (50% of the suspension amount).
After the game against the Jazz, the Minnesota Timberwolves are now the ninth seed in the Western Conference table, with a 32-29 record. Edwards' presence on the court was missed direly during the game, which the Wolves lost to the Jazz 116-117. The Utah Jazz are currently the last seed on the table.
Anthony Edwards' NBA suspension complicates Minnesota Timberwolves playoff ambitions
Anthony Edwards and Lakers' Jarred Vanderbilt got into a little altercation during the game, leading to Edwards getting a technical foul. He then picked up another foul in the third quarter, leading to his immediate ejection and a subsequent one-game suspension. And the criticism has been overflowing since then.
Many have criticized the shooting guard for being unable to keep his emotions in check. Being ninth in the table poses issues for the Timberwolves' playoff ambitions. They now need two play-in games to advance and consolidate their playoff position. If Edwards cannot keep himself in check, things are not looking good for the Timberwolves.
