Damian Lillard came extremely close to holding the record for being the first NBA Player in history to rack up three 3-point contest titles in a row. However, the All-Star Game on Saturday ended up with him getting eliminated from the game. The 2025 edition of the event saw Lillard closing the first round with just 18 points, tied with New York Knicks star, Jalen Brunson. Lillard and Brunson became the fourth-highest scorers in the game. Only the top three scorers qualified for the next round.

While Damian Lillard lost his shot to glory, Tyler Herro of the Miami Heat, Buddy Hield from the Golden State Warriors, and Darius Garland from the Cleveland Cavaliers closed the first phase of the game as the top three scorers. Moving on to the final phase, Tyler Herro emerged as the final winner but only by the slimmest of margins. He scored 24 points, trailing behind him by one point was Buddy Hield with 23 points. Garland trailed with 19 points.

Damian Lillard announces retirement from the 3-point contest
After the event, fans were left stunned as Damian Lillard announced that he would not be a part of NBA 3-point contests in the future. He took to the Milwaukee Bucks’ official X account to make this announcement. Lillard wrote, “Came up short tonight. Congrats to Tyler [Herro]. It’s all good… This will be my last one. I’m retiring. Officially retiring. Sharing the video, The Milwaukee Bucks wrote, “Dame’s officially retiring from the 3-point contest.”

Lillard would continue to be a part of the NBA All Star Tournament. The star has made his mark this season with an average of 25.8 points, 7.5 assists and 4.7 rebounds. Behind the arc he has also shot 39.2 percent. He is a career 37.1 percent 3-point shooter.
