Former NBA star Nik Stauskas responded to Jimmy Butler’s complaints about a delayed paycheck from the Miami Heat. Butler had reportedly faced a 10-day delay in receiving his salary due to an accounting error. Stauskas has referred to his own experience with payment issues during his 2018 season with the Brooklyn Nets and suggested that Butler should not let such incidents affect his relationship with the team. Stauskas asserted that errors like these are common in sports.

Nik Stauskas critiques Jimmy Butler for his fallout with the Miami Heat

Jimmy Butler has recently been the center of discussion for many fans, analysts, and NBA stars. The six-time NBA All-Star was suspended for seven games following his comments on the potential trade. Butler has since been in a rift with the team’s president Pat Riley. While many NBA stars have reacted to the escalating situation at hand ahead of the NBA trade deadline, Nik Stauskas condemned Butler in a recent social media post.

“When I played for the Nets in 2018, my first two months I got paid less than what I was owed. Wasn’t until my mom pointed it out to the team, that they corrected it. Errors happen. That’s not a legitimate reason to have a bad relationship with the organization. Be a professional,” the Canadian basketball athlete wrote on X.

Stauskas' comment came after Chris Haynes’ recent report involving Butler. The NBA analyst revealed that this past summer, the Miami Heat experienced an "accounting error" that delayed Jimmy Butler's paycheck by 10 days. “That had never happened before. You’ve got all of that going on, on top of an accounting error that delayed his paycheck. Things just started to feel a little bit off at that point,” Haynes reported.

Butler and Stauskas briefly played together in 2021, when Stauskas joined the Heat on a 10-day contract before being sent to the G-League. The Canadian shooting guard announced his retirement in 2024.

Recently, NBA legend Dwyane Wade has also reflected on Butler’s ongoing feud with the Miami Heat. The former Miami Heat star said the incident was unfortunate. “It’s ending tragically, this is tragic. This is a tragic way to end a relationship,” Wade shared during Wednesday’s episode of his podcast The Why With Dwyane Wade. As a former player, he added, “It’s ugly on our franchise, it’s a stain on our franchise that we continue to have the way that the relationships break up. But also, too, on the other side, you don’t run that organization as a player. So you get to that space sometimes where you want to do things your way. It’s Pat Riley’s way.”
