Golden State Warriors first to clinch NBA Cup Knockout Spot with three straight wins

The Golden State Warriors secured their spot in the NBA Cup knock... Read More
Golden State Warriors have been off to a hot start this season and currently hold the number one seed in the Western Conference. That’s not all though, as the Warriors are also the first team to clinch themselves a spot in the NBA Cup’s knockout stages. With three wins and no losses, the Warriors are on top of Group C in the West.

Their third and most recent win came against the New Orleans Pelicans, who have now been eliminated from the NBA Cup. The Pels put up a good fight but couldn’t get over Steph Curry and his team, who just got by with a scoreline of 112-108. This is the most assured the Warriors have looked ever since they beat the Celtics in the 2022 NBA Finals.

Their recent form and Stephen Curry’s desire to win his fifth ring have got the fans wondering whether Golden State can go all the way this season. Let’s take a look.

Do the Golden State Warriors have enough quality to make another NBA finals run?

Currently, the Warriors are in fine form and seem to be a championship-caliber team. However, for them to become favorites, some changes need to be made. First off, the team needs to ensure that they make it to the final rounds of the NBA Cup. This will help some of the newer guys on the team get a taste of what playoff basketball looks like, which will prove to be huge come April.

Moreover, the Warriors need to add more defense to their team. Currently, Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins, and Gary Payton II are the team’s best defenders. Now, for a team that is aiming to win the NBA Finals, this is not good enough, especially since Draymond is now 34 and has lost a step or two. Gone are the days when Green used to be one of the best defenders in the league.

So, the priority right now is to make some good trades before the All-Star break. The Warriors being the first to clinch a spot in the NBA Cup’s knockouts is a good indication of what this team is capable of. If they can add a couple more pieces to the board, we might just see Steph Curry get his fifth ring in 2025.
