The player turned human rights activist, Enes Kanter Freedom, surely didn’t hold back and took to social media to scorch the Hall of Famer in a move that has the basketball world bifurcated.

Enes Kanter is not holding back with Shaq

Enes Kanter Freedom, who has been effectively exiled from Turkey due to his vocal opposition to Erdogan’s regime, wasted no time calling out the Lakers legend. In a biting post on X, Kanter questioned Shaq’s moral compass, asking, "How much is your integrity worth?"

He started the post with, “Hey, Shaq. Let me teach you a lesson. At what point do you choose morals over money? Whether you were paid for these photo ops or not is irrelevant. You willingly posed next to a man the entire world knows is a dictator.”

He added, “I am not trying to embarrass you. I am holding you accountable. You are one of the most recognizable athletes on the planet. Millions of people, especially kids, look up to you. When you stand next to a tyrant, you help launder his crimes and give him legitimacy.”

For Kanter, this just seems to be about a photo, but what Erdogan represents. The Turkish President has long been accused of human rights violations, silencing journalists, and political oppression.

For Kanter, the image of a global icon like Shaq, smiling next to a figure many label a dictator, was the ultimate betrayal of the values the NBA claims to stand for. Ene’s name change to Enes Kanter Freedom was a mission statement, and seeing one of his peers validate Erdogan felt like a slap in the face to every political prisoner currently in a Turkish jail.
