The Indiana Fever put an end to their nine-year playoff winless streak on September 16, 2025, taking down the Atlanta Dream 77-60 in Game 2 of their first-round WNBA playoff series at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
This victory was their first in the postseason since October 11, 2015, when they won against the Minnesota Lynx 75-69 in Game 4 of the WNBA Finals. With this win, the series is now tied at 1-1, leading to a must-win Game 3 in Atlanta.
Indiana Fever celebrate first playoff win since 2015
Indiana's most recent playoff victory was back in 2015 when they played in the WNBA Finals, but they ended up losing the series to the Lynx. After that, the
Fever went through a rebuilding period, missing the playoffs from 2017 to 2024 and not making any progress in their playoff runs. However, the 2025 season marked a change, as the team achieved 20 wins and made it back to the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
In Game 2, the Fever never fell behind, taking an early lead and holding onto it throughout the match. They were ahead 26-19 with 5:52 left in the second quarter, demonstrating effective shooting at 42% during that time. By the time halftime rolled around, Indiana had a comfortable lead, which they increased to as much as 17 points in the second half. The home crowd, sporting red for a "red out," added a lot of energy, playing a big part in the Fever's strong performance.
Indiana Fever defense dominates Atlanta Dream holding them to just 60 points
The Indiana Fever had an important role in keeping the Dream to only 60 with a shooting percentage of just 37.9% in the field and only 26 percent outside the field. They also put Atlanta on their heels, forcing it to miss and turnover, which in effect restrained their key scorers who had scored 40 points each in Game 1.
On the offensive end, the Fever managed to shoot 42% overall, showcasing balanced scoring and strong post play.
Key highlights showed Aliyah Boston kicking off the scoring with the game's first basket. Kelsey Mitchell chipped in with some early three-pointers, which really helped to create some momentum.
Indiana Fever kept their grip on the game even though Atlanta Dream tried to make a comeback in the third quarter. The fourth quarter showed rookies like Michaela Timson stepping up, including a tough and-one play against Naz Hillmon.
Atlanta Dream faced a lot of frustration, especially from Allisha Gray and Rhyne Howard, who ended up on the bench late in the game due to their emotional reactions to the calls. The Atlanta Dream's poor shooting and lack of energy held them back from making a comeback.
