Even in defeat, Joel Embiid couldn't help but applaud Jimmy Butler's incredible performance against the Philadelphia 76ers. Returning from a four-game injury absence, Butler put on a clinic, leading the Miami Heat to a dramatic comeback victory. Embiid, who knows a thing or two about elite play, didn’t hold back in his praise for Butler's all-around dominance. Here's a closer look at how Butler’s standout performance earned him respect from his former teammate.
Joel Embiid calls Jimmy Butler 'Best Player in the League'
Despite the 106-89 loss to the Miami Heat, Joel Embiid had high praise for Jimmy Butler’s standout performance. Back from a four-game absence due to a right ankle injury, Butler exploded for 30 points on just 12 shots, including a perfect 3-point attempt. He also added 10 rebounds, 5 assists, and 1 steal, all while committing zero turnovers, showcasing his impressive all-around game.
Embiid, who’s no stranger to high-level play himself, took it a step further, declaring Butler the "best player" in the NBA ranking him above reigning MVP Nikola Jokic and Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo. It was high praise for a player who has proven time and time again that when he’s on the floor, the Heat are a force to be reckoned with.
"Jimmy's Jimmy," said Embiid when asked about Butler's performance. "He does everything. Scoring, passing the ball. Commanding while being on the floor. Both sides of the floor.
"One of the best players in the league. Probably top five. Probably the best actually. Best player in the league. He's hard. He's hard to guard. You know, it takes the whole team."
Butler kept his feet on the ground as he reflected on his remarkable performance, one that was key in powering the Heat to a thrilling comeback from a 19-point deficit, securing a much-needed victory.
"I think I just did what I’m supposed to do at a decent level today," Butler mentioned after the game. (via: Sportskeeda)
