During a recent appearance on a widely watched chat show, Durant opened up on how his mother introduced him to the world of video games only to get over boredom during his childhood.

Kevin Durant On How His Mother Helped Him Explore His Love For Video Games

NBA star Kevin Durant’s appearance on the famous show, Up And Adams Show With Kay Adams spoke about his passion for video games. The 14-time All-Star even revealed that his mother played a very significant role in this process. On being asked about one of his best Christmas gifts, Durant said-

"A Sega Genesis,"

According to Kevin Durant, that particular gift introduced him to one of his long-standing passions video games. He further mentioned-

"It was so generous of my mom to buy that at that age. I was so bored in the house just watching TV reruns, and then she bought me a game. I was locked in, man. It just opened me up to the gaming world, and I've been hooked ever since. So, shoutout to my mom, she was just being proactive."

“I’m a little nervous today,”

While talking about his mother, he further mentioned-

“I don’t think you know what you did. You had my brother when you were 18 years old. Three years later, I came out. The odds were stacked against us. Single parent with two boys by the time you were 21 years old.”

Kevin Durant firmly believes that he wouldn’t have been here if his mother had not been there for him. He continued-

“We weren’t supposed to be here. You made us believe. You kept us off the street. You put clothes on our backs, and food on the table. When you didn’t eat, you made sure we ate. You went to sleep hungry. You sacrificed for us.”


Standing in a slim-fit blue suit, Kevin Durant had a small piece of paper while giving the heart-touching speech, but his emotions overflowed the finite limits of the small note he was carrying that day.
