NEW DELHI: The Brooklyn Nets have named Kevin Ollie as their interim head coach, a move announced on Tuesday. Ollie, 51, previously served as an assistant coach under Vaughn's staff, joining the Nets at the beginning of the current NBA season.

A familiar face in basketball coaching circles, Kevin Ollie has an impressive coaching pedigree. He notably spent six seasons (2012-2018) as the head coach of the University of Connecticut (UConn), his alma mater.

Under Ollie's leadership, the UConn Huskies secured the NCAA Tournament championship in 2014, marking a significant achievement in his coaching career. His tenure at UConn was characterized by a commendable 127-79 record.

Prior to joining the Brooklyn Nets as an assistant coach, Ollie took charge of the Overtime Elite program from 2021 to 2023, showcasing his commitment and influence in the development of basketball talent.

Beyond his coaching endeavors, Ollie boasts an impressive playing career in the NBA. Over 13 seasons, he competed in 662 games for 11 different franchises, demonstrating versatility on the court with an average of 3.8 points and 2.3 assists.

The decision to replace Jacque Vaughn comes amid a challenging period for the Brooklyn Nets, who entered the All-Star break with a record of 21-33, placing them 11th in the Eastern Conference. The team has encountered difficulties recently, losing five of their last six games, including a notable 136-86 defeat to the Boston Celtics last Wednesday.
